"Greater love has no one than this, that someone           lay down his life for his friends." - John 15:13

Several years ago, God had laid it on my heart to go into the mission field. At the time, I had no idea how much it would change my life. After much praying and seeking, God sent me at the perfect time. Growing up in church, I knew what Jesus had done for us by giving His life, but i never fully got or understood what He had done. As I preached to thousands of Filipino people, I was hearing my own words, but not listening. Until one day at a hospital, preaching to a family of six with their sick grandfather laying in the bed near death. In this moment, I finally, for the first time in my life "got it". As I began to tell them of the choice Jesus made to die for us, I saw their faces transition from hopelessness to hope. As I continued to tell them of His love for us, it hit me, "Jesus did this for me too!"...and in that moment, I fully understood the price He paid for me. The choice He made to die out of love for me. In that instance, I was no longer hearing my words echoing in my head, but listening to this amazing, beautiful truth that Jesus died just for me! My life was changed forever! Out of this experience, I wanted to have something to thank the pastor that led the trip for giving me the chance to serve and change my life. On my flight home, I was listening to a song by Hillsong United entitled "Aftermath". The song speaks of us being found in the aftermath of Jesus' death. As I was intently listening to the beautiful message behind the words, one line jumped out at me and kept resonating through my head..."In that moment of glorious surrender, was the moment You broke the chains in me...", what a beautiful truth! A "Glorious Surrender", the most meaningful and beautiful surrender the world has ever seen. And in this surrender, every chain in us was broken. We no longer have to live in bondage, because the chains were broken in the exact moment of the first drop of Jesus' blood shed! So, as I sat and meditated on these beautiful lyrics, asking God what I should do as a reminder, He laid it on my heart to draw this beautiful depiction of a glorious surrender. Glorious because it was done purely out of His love for us, and a surrender because it was a choice. I entitled this drawing "Glorious Surrender" so it would be a daily reminder of the beautiful choice Jesus made for us. And what a better way to show that choice than to depict the moment of surrender. The moment that every chain was destroyed and broken. Let this drawing be a reminder to you in your home of the love and freedom we have in Jesus! Never forgetting the choice that was made for you and I!
